Bus stop design and traffic safety: An explorative analysis

چکیده

One way to prioritize public transport over private vehicle mobility, is implement curbside rather than layby bus stop designs. There is, however, uncertainty about the consequences of implementing stops for traffic collision risks. To begin investigating this issue, we describe an exploratory analysis in which national data describing stops, road properties, collisions and built-up areas were merged based on geographical location. Analysis resulting set suggests that relative rates personal injury within 60 m stop, higher (0.32 vs. 0.22 per ten million passing vehicles, respectively). Our analyses suggest risk nearby not necessarily due design, but because they tend be located closer junctions side roads, where are more likely. consistent with hypotheses associated greater shares head-on or rear-end nor side-on stops. The limitations analysis, use national-level studying effects design risk, related lack control features other layby, statistical power, registration compromises made when coupling Future work should attempt build our approach, supplement database in-depth reports collisions, observations user conflicts near before-after studies following conversion from

School bus and children's traffic safety.

OBJECTIVE There is no safer way to transport a child than a school bus. Fatal crashes involving occupants are extremely rare events in the US. In recent years, school bus transportation began to develop in China. We want to bring advanced experience on school bus safety in Western countries such as the US to developing countries. METHODS We searched the papers related to school bus safety fro...

Working Paper Study of Passenger-Bus-Traffic Interactions on Bus Stop Operations

Buses are the unsung heroes of public transport in modern cities around the world in high, medium and low income countries. However, the bus system is usually cobbled by poor design which has resulted from poor understanding of how a busThis paper examines the impacts of the interactions between buses, passengers and traffic on bus operations, especially in relation to delays and capacity at bu...

Incremental bus service design: combining limited-stop and local bus services

Long in-vehicle travel times resulting from frequent stops make bus service an unattractive choice for many commuters. Limited-stop bus services however have the advantage of shorter in-vehicle times experienced by passengers. In this work, we seek to modify a given bus service by optimally reassigning some number of bus trips, as opposed to providing additional trips, to operate a limited-stop...

Explorative Spatial Analysis of Traffic Accidents Using Gwpr Model for Urban Safety Planning

In recent years considerable studies have been carried out to investigate the relationships between crashes and related factors. Trip generator variables as the function of socio-economic and demographic characteristics and land use along with exposure variable, Vehicle Kilometers Travelled (VKT) might be appropriate variables to estimate the crashes at aggregated area-level. Generalized Linear...

Quantifying the joint impacts of stop locations, signalized intersections, and traffic conditions on bus travel time

Quantifying factors that affect bus travel time along arterials is necessary to prioritize investments to reduce bus travel time and its variability and to design advanced prediction and traveler information systems. The joint effects of bus stop location (near vs. far side), intersection delay and traffic conditions on travel time have not been addressed in the literature. To fill this researc...
